SERVICES

Alive Structures is a landscape design and build company specializing in green roofs and ecological gardens. We are a City and State Certified Woman Owned Business based in Brooklyn, New York committed to improving the city by creating green roofs and gardens that clean our air and water, reduce energy dependence, create open green space and natural habitat, while stimulating educational and economic opportunities.

Since 2007, Alive Structures has focused on designing and constructing green roofs. We have indepth knowledge of a variety of green roof systems, garden design, native plants, and the New York City installation process, making us experts in the field. We engage in hands on construction on-site, create and collaborate on design, and believe in a transparent and honest work process. We also provide maintenance services for the projects we design and install.

MISSION

Alive Structures believes in integrating nature into our city; making it a healthier and more resilient place to live for humans and other species. By building large scale green roofs using wildflowers and native grasses, Alive Structures creates green corridors in our city’s industrial zones, some of the most polluted areas in New York. These corridors provide the city with a multitude of benefits including vital habitats for migratory birds and threatened pollinators, adding jobs to the workforce, providing special educational and regenerative spaces, managing storm water runoff, moderating the urban heat island effect, reducing energy dependence, cleaning air pollution and beautifying the urban environment.

TEAM

The company was founded by Marni Majorelle, who studied Biology Conservation at Columbia and Horticulture and Landscape Design at Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. She is a native New Yorker and believes that cities need to include nature in order to be resilient and healthy centers for humanity.

Alive Structures believes that people disadvantaged by an unjust society deserve additional help to find work and improve their lives. That is why we work with organizations like The Fortune Society and The Hope Program; they are organizations committed to environmental and economic justice. Our company provides training and employment in green roof design, installation, horticulture, garden maintenance, irrigation, construction, and hope that our workers can be examples of the new green economy. Green roofs have the potential of providing thousands of jobs to New Yokers and being a regenerative industry that makes the city a healthier, resilient, and more beautiful place to live.
